Valuable lesson learnt today... don't immerse the hard torso plastic pieces in lacquer thinners. It eats the plastic. Didn't affect the limbs and heads like this though. I have since been informed that thinners acts as a disintegrator to ABS plastic.  |

That sucks, man. Sorry to see that happened. I don't strip paint very often. When I do, it is normally for errors in my own paint job. Rubbing alcohol works fairly well. Tough lesson though. Usually lessons learned like that lead to greater results in the future.

I'll be honest. I, too, consider myself a newbie customizer as well. I think we are all learning on the fly together. I've only dabbled in this type of artwork over the last year or so.

Ugh so I bought an acrylic varnish recommended by the guy at the hobby shop to spray on one of my customs as a clear coat to give the paint job a bit of protection.... But now after spraying it on its gone all white and affecting the paint!!
I'm so annoyed right now!

I have never used it on a figure, but have used finish on other things. I could be wrong, but it sounds like too much was applied and over saturated the figure (very easy to do with spray on finish on anything). I have heard Testors Dullcote works the best, but again I've yet to try it. I have a test figure that I've painted that I'm going to use as my guinea pig. I'll apply it one way on the front and another way on the back to see how it takes. Sorry to hear that your custom was affected like that. I hope it's easily fixable.

Looks like an easy fix to just apply another light coat of paint on him. The finish should help the paint stick too. You'll probably have to test spray on the back to find the right distance and pressure.

Ive seen some people online using a matte finish hog podge as a sealer. But thts brush on. If you wait till next week Ill try some i can be the guinea 🐖

Yeah, white is so hard to cover with. I have to use about 4 thinned coats to get the job done. Also, it usually doesn't look good until after it dries (metallic is much like that too).

Yeah, metallic does look great dry brushed. The blue Bolder has it on his armor and I wished they used that paint app a little more often.
