Jurassic Clash Dino Wrangler Smoke/Raptor review

So I realised I had some discount points at the store that stocks these and so I managed to pick up this set at like half the price!
So here we have Smoke and his Raptor. Overall, Im pretty impressed but there are issues here and there...

First the negatives...
Smoke cannot turn his head... AT ALL. There is zero clearance space in that scarf thing.

His green rifle has a huge peg on it... it's really distracting plus it doesnt hold the gun on his back anyways! it just falls out it is so loose.

On the Dino... zero articulation except his jaw which doesnt rally work anyways because of the harness on his head. It goes into the mouth and doesn't allow the jaw to close. You'd probably have to cut the piece to allow the tongue to press up completely against the roof of the mouth.


The positives. Awesome sculpts!
Paint apps are nice (although lacking on the figure compared to the proto as expected)
The articulation is pretty cool... but feels more finicky than the T-Crotch guys.
Smoke is also quite thin compared to the beefier guys like Rucker.
I havent had the chance to try crack open Smoke but on first glance he seems pretty tightly held together at the seams... so we'll see.
He holds his weapons nicely. They fit into the respective holsters well. He has a rifle, pistol and what looks to be some sort of explosive device, Im not 100% sure.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it.

This retails in South Africa for R99. I got it for R30 using my frequent shopper points.

Beautiful figure. A little disappointed in the scarf because I thought mentioned it would be removable. I don't know if that sculpt will be reused since it is so character specific (he wears it to hide his scars). The same is with Impact because he is supposed to be the Curse "brute" (aside from Ogre). I'd love if the new characters had newer sculpts too, but that would go against the Lanard model.

Smoke looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see him broken down and actually see the full sculpt. How does it feel to have a figure we've waited a year for? I even like how he looks next to Rucker.

Also, Smoke is supposed to be skinnier and smaller in stature than the others. From the file card, he's supposed to be 5'8 140ish. Blake had mentioned variations in size like "real people" for the new lineup.

Yeah true, its just weird to have characters look vastly different than the others. Even Rain and Mirage took a while for me to get used to as there proportions were quite different to Rucker-era figs.

heh, it is weird having these before the States... I usually have to wait ages to get figures in hand (I waited nearly a year for Curse stuff to appear here!)

Got Smoke to crack! I didnt think it would budge but I just needed to stick my exacto blade in their to start a chain reaction. I just couldn't get the waist peg out... seemed very stuck in there...

The Recoil head works well on Smoke's body, actually. I'm not sure I care for Smoke's head on Bolder's torso (can't really put my finger on why, though), but I actually like it quite a bit on the blue one (Decoder?). I think because that torso has the built-in trapezius muscles which accentuate the neck.

cool stuff. I didn't try a blade on the torso of shrapnel or Trickshot only cause they are part of a much more expensive set to buy until the carded figs arrive. I do love smoke's appearance he does have a aging Anontio Bandres look about him lol

Reminds me a little of a bond villian or Murdock from the A team.

It might be his ears. The seam a little big but there are people whose ears stand out. The scarf breaks up his outline so they don't stand out so much.

I really love the Raptor. It reminds me a lot of Dino Riders, just without the weapons.

These are so stinking awesome. Way better than a lot of action figures out there lately.

more of a commentary on the SMOKE figure it's self... he he really wearing a pair of trainers?

Shame the dino didn't have good articulation.
